  4.                          ABOUT THE AUTHOR -  JIM HOOD

  8.        I am commercial photographer by training and a computer hobbyist 
  9.        by preference. An odd combination of skills, but technology has 
  10.        always been a fascination. I live about 3 miles from Seattle, 
  11.        Washington on Mercer Island, a city of about 24,000 people in 
  12.        the middle of Lake Washington. 
  13.  
  14.        As former coordinator for the Mercer Island Computer Club, I 
  15.        divide my time between computer related hobby activities and the 
  16.        operation of Seattle Scientific Photography which produces 35mm 
  17.        lecture/presentation slides for a variety of commercial clients. 
  18.  
  19.        Many authors and vendors wonder how I collect such a large 
  20.        amount of newsletter and mailing address information. The 
  21.        Seattle area where I live is home to major software companies 
  22.        such as Quicksoft (Bob Wallace/PC Write) Buttonware (Jim 
  23.        Button/PC File), Microsoft, Aldus, Microrim and many others. We 
  24.        have a large BBS network, rich computer club focus and busy 
  25.        programming scene. Various lists and leads thus pop into focus 
  26.        frequently and it makes sense to me as a shareware author to 
  27.        collect and use this information in mailing my shareware to 
  28.        various distributors and large computer clubs. 
  29.        
  30.        However, the more I thought about how valuable such mailing list 
  31.        and shareware industry news is, it seems a little selfish not to 
  32.        distribute this information which, in some ways, is more vital 
  33.        to your financial success than the source code of your program! 
  34.      
  35.        I attended the University of Sophia in Tokyo, Japan and Seattle 
  36.        University in Seattle. I have taught classes at the University 
  37.        of Washington Experimental College. My first shareware program, 
  38.        PC-LEARN absorbed approximately 950 hours of programming, 
  39.        editing and research time. Your honesty in submitting a
